“Right now, in the workplace, there’s three different generations. We have the baby boomers, the Gen Xers, and the millennials.” – Alison Cacella

Bridging the age divide in the workplace isn’t easy.

While the Baby Boomers and Gen Xers push for stability and health benefits, millennials ask “why” and want to be part of the company mission. This push and pull, if not managed correctly, can drive an HR manager crazy. They have to constantly juggle the opposing forces, while steering the ship forward.

On today’s episode of the $mart Women Invest podcast, we are joined by Alison Cacella. Alison is a human resource consultant partnering with small business owners to bridge the workplace generational gap. As the owner of Breathe Easy Living, she is honored and privileged to work with exceptional individuals on their path to cultivating and refining their company culture. Tune into this episode to learn how Alison approaches companies looking to bridge their age divides, and how you can implement that same strategy in your company!

Points to Keep In Mind

  • A fiduciary is an advisor who has the client’s best interest at heart.
    • They are paid in fees, whereas most advisors are charging a percentage of assets under management.
  • A workplace has 3 different generations: Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millennials.
  • Millennials are the most educated generation, most holding a 4-year degree.
  • Let Millennials be part of “the why” of your organization.
  • Try to save 6 months’ worth of income, so you can quit your job when you want.
  • Forbes reported that U.S. companies had $160 billion in turnover money (both voluntary and involuntary.)
  • Put eggs in multiple baskets in case of emergency.
  • For entrepreneurs, use Quickbooks and Square.
  • If you don’t know code, outsource your web development.
  • Block out time for self-care if you’re an entrepreneur.
    • If you don’t take care of you, you can’t take care of anyone else
