Evolution, Choice & Change with Randi Levin

“A good coach is not someone who gives you what you want. A good coach is someone who asks you questions.” – Randi Levin

It’s that time of year again.

Early January has us joining gyms and buying kale without thinking about the sustainability of self-transformation efforts. New Year’s resolutions are, for the most part, ineffective in the long-run. Sure, you can ditch five pounds in a month with a new exercise regimen and diet overhaul, but what will your mindset be in April? In September? What about the same time next year? To truly change yourself requires more than a trip to Trader Joe’s and Equinox membership. It requires digging deep.

How you do this is by surrounding yourself with people who will ask you the uncomfortable questions, the ones that force you to grow while thinking about the answer. Why haven’t you been able to achieve your goals yet? What is stopping you from becoming who you want to be? Why are you letting this stop you? Regardless of the answers to these questions, the fact is that if we aren’t asked them, we aren’t thinking about them.

Today, on the $mart Women Invest podcast, we are joined by author, speaker, and coach, Randi Levin. As a transitional life strategist and reinvention expert, Randi is a professional at asking these uncomfortable questions. How she gets her clients to improve themselves is by believing every woman should have the opportunity to be a legend in her life. For her, the concept of legacy allows us to live in the moment and positions us to have choice and control over our destiny.

Tune in to hear Randi’s story and join the conversation around empowering us women to own our careers. And don’t forget you can listen to $mart Women on iTunes and Stitcher!

Points to Keep In Mind

  • Legacy is defined as what we leave behind, but can be used as a powerful tool if you ground it in your day-to-day
  • Invest in business coaches and mentors, but don’t lose belief in yourself
  • Confidence and authenticity is key
  • We don’t have one purpose, we have all multiple purposes; we don’t have one thing we’re good at, we have multiple things
  • Be careful of making New Year’s resolutions without considering long-term goals
  • A business coach is different than a transitional life coach
  • When finding a coach, make sure the person you’re hiring reflects what you’re looking for
    • Make sure the coach has some sort of formal training
  • Growth comes from answering difficult questions
  • Effective life coaching is not coaching the life; but rather, coaching the emotion behind the life
  • Advice from another person is rarely applicable because it’s that person’s solution
