Studies show the gender wage gap more than doubles after a woman has her first child.

But we as a society don’t think twice about it. After maternity leave, women return to their office to find a different company culture. Whatever ladder they were climbing has suddenly shifted, and their path upwards has redirected to somewhere new.

Today we are joined by Melissa Birge, cofounder of Mia Tango, the maternity clothing brand. We’ll unpack the nuances of paid family leave, the upside of personalized small business, rejoining the work force and the importance of a well-rounded entrepreneur.

Prior to her founding Mia Tano, Melissa was one of the early employees at Kayak, serving as CFO building the finance and accounting departments from the ground up.

Tune in to hear Melissa’s story, and how she aims to start a more nuanced conversation about maternity/paternity leave with her business.

“I never really thought of myself as an entrepreneur. I loved working with entrepreneurs. But I really liked the steady paycheck of a job.” – Melissa Birge
